Hive Stack: a hexagon sort puzzle in a candy honeycomb
Hive Stack is our hexagon sort puzzle, set in a honeycomb of wax cells. You place stacks of candy hex tiles, and matching colors hop across to gather on one pile. When ten of one color sit on top, the pile pops, and one pop can trigger the next.

How to play
- Drag one of the three offered stacks onto an empty cell, or tap it and then tap a cell.
- Watch the top tiles: neighbors with the same top color gather onto the pile that already has the longest run of it.
- Get ten or more of one color on top and that run pops, counting toward the level target.
- Reach the target number of popped tiles before the hive fills up.
What it exercises
It looks like a relaxed stack sorting puzzle, but the gathering rule rewards a bit of foresight.
Planning
Where you drop a stack decides which pile collects the tiles, so you build toward one big pile instead of scattering colors.
Spatial thinking
Every hex cell has six neighbors. Seeing which of them a placement will touch takes practice on the larger boards.
Seeing chains
A pop reveals the color underneath, which may match a neighbor and pour again. Spotting those chains in advance is the fun part.
Tips
- Place a stack next to the pile you want to grow; tiles always flow toward the longest run of their color.
- Only the top color moves. A layered stack can feed one pile now and a different pile after it pops.
- Leave a few empty cells near the middle. A full hive ends the level.
- The hammer, swap and shuffle helpers are free on each level. Save them for the moment the hive is nearly full.
- Every color has its own symbol, so you can sort by shape when two candies look alike.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play a hexagon sort puzzle?
You place stacks of colored hex tiles on a hexagon grid. Tiles of matching colors move together into one stack, and a stack with enough of one color clears. In Hive Stack that number is ten.
Is there a hex stack game online free with no ads?
Hive Stack is free to play in the browser on mobile or desktop. There are no ads and nothing to install.
How many levels does Hive Stack have?
100. They start with three colors and grow to eight. Wax plugs that block cells appear from level 21, locked cells that open after nearby pops from level 41, and stacks already on the board from level 51. Levels ending in 5, from 15 to 95, are easier breathers.
What are the hammer, swap and shuffle?
The hammer smashes one stack on the board, swap trades the places of two stacks and shuffle deals a new offer. You get each one for free, once per level.
Is every hexa puzzle level solvable?
Yes. Before release, each of the 100 levels was won by our test bot without using any helper, so there is always a way through.
