Knit Unwind

Knit Unwind: a cozy yarn sort puzzle with 120 pictures to unravel

Knit Unwind is a yarn sort puzzle where a knitted picture sits in a wooden frame, waiting to be taken apart. Tap a loose row of stitches and it unravels, loop by loop, onto the spool of its color; full spools pop off and the next one rolls in. Yarn with nowhere to go waits in a small basket, and if the basket overflows the level is lost.

How to play

  1. Look at the open spools on the rack and the ones queued up next.
  2. Tap a stitch row that touches the edge of the picture or a gap in it.
  3. Watch the yarn wind onto the open spool of the same color, or drop into the basket if none is open.
  4. Fill a spool to send it away and bring in the next.
  5. Unravel every stitch without overflowing the basket to finish the picture.

What it exercises

As a knitting puzzle it moves at a slow, cozy pace, yet it hides a sorting problem that rewards looking a few pulls ahead.

Tips

Frequently asked questions

Is there a wool sort game online free with no download?

Knit Unwind is one. You play it in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer, it costs nothing, and you do not need to install anything.

Is it a wool sort game with no ads?

Yes. There are no adverts at all, and the Undo and Extra peg tools are free on every level.

How do you win this yarn puzzle game?

Unravel every stitch in the picture. The level is lost only if the basket overflows, so the whole puzzle is about pulling rows in an order the spools can take.

What are good yarn sort puzzle tips for harder levels?

Watch for knotted rows from level 51: pulling one pulls two colors at once. From level 54 some spools are locked and open only after a set number of other spools have filled, so plan around them.

How many levels are there?

120. Levels 1 to 10 use two colors to teach the rules, levels 11 to 50 use four to six colors with sewn-on patches, and levels 51 to 120 bring knots, locked spools and more detailed pictures. Every level has been checked by a solver.

Where do finished pictures go?

Each one re-knits for a moment and joins your collection, which you can browse during the visit.
