Shop Keeper: a counting money game at the corner shop
Shop Keeper is a counting money game set behind the counter of a small corner shop. Customers bring everyday money questions, from making change to splitting a café bill, and you answer before their patience runs out. Prices are in glim, a made-up currency with two decimals, so the arithmetic works the same wherever you live.

How to play
- Press Open the shop and read what the first customer says.
- For change, tap coins and notes from the cash drawer until the right amount is on the counter.
- For every other question, type the amount on the keypad; for a Better deal question, tap the cheaper offer.
- Press Done before the patience bar empties. Serve six customers to reach the next level.
What it exercises
Every task is a piece of real shop maths, done in your head and on a timer, which makes this money math game feel like a busy shift in a cashier game.
Mental maths
You subtract for change, multiply for totals, divide for split bills and price per item, and work with percentages for discounts and tips.
Speed
Patience starts at about 32 seconds per customer and shrinks level by level, so you learn quicker routes to the same answer.
Number sense
Comparing two pack deals means judging price per item, the same habit that helps when you shop for real.
Tips
- For change, count up from the price to the note the customer paid with, the way cashiers do, instead of subtracting.
- For a discount, work out the amount taken off first, then subtract it. 10% is easy to find, and 20% is twice that.
- To compare two deals, divide each price by its quantity. A wrong pick is often the bigger pack that only looks cheaper.
- Level 1 uses whole numbers only; cents arrive at level 2, so it is a good warm-up for counting coins.
- After a wrong answer the game shows the worked sum, like a receipt. Read it before the next customer walks in.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a counting money game for adults?
Yes, Shop Keeper is written for teens and adults. The tasks go beyond counting coins to discounts, tips, split bills and price-per-item comparisons, all against a clock.
Can I play this making change game online for free?
You can. It runs in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with no ads and no download.
What kinds of money questions are there?
Seven: change, sale prices after a discount, totals for several items, splitting a bill evenly, the better of two deals, totals with a tip, and the price of one item from a pack.
Why are prices in glim instead of dollars?
Glim is our own currency, so no one has to learn a foreign coin set. It works like any decimal currency, with notes and coins from 0.05 up to 20 in the drawer.
How does the run end?
You have three hearts. A wrong answer or a customer who walks off costs one. Levels keep coming as long as hearts remain, and from level 6 every level is a random mix of task types.
How do you count change quickly?
Count up from the price instead of subtracting: add coins until you reach the next round amount, then add notes until you reach what the customer paid. The coins and notes you added are the change.
