Lighthouse: a peripheral vision game on a night sea
Lighthouse is a peripheral vision game with two jobs at once. In the middle, the keeper's lamp cycles through an anchor, a fish and a star, and you tap it when it shows the signal. Meanwhile ships drift in from the edges of the dark sea, and you spot each one before it reaches the rocks.

How to play
- Read the signal symbol for the level, shown on the pill at the top.
- Tap the lamp, or press Space or Enter, every time it shows that symbol.
- Tap each ship as soon as you notice it; the faster you spot it, the more points it gives.
- Leave buoys and seagulls alone. Tapping one, or letting a ship hit the rocks, costs a heart.
- Get through six nights of about 40 seconds each with your 3 hearts to see dawn.
What it exercises
As an attention game, it works in two layers: the lamp pins your gaze to the center, and the ships test how much you take in without moving it.
Peripheral awareness
Ships appear near the outer edge and drift slowly inward. Noticing them early, while looking elsewhere, is the core of the game.
Divided attention
You keep a rhythm at the lamp while scanning the sea, and neither job can be dropped for long.
Response inhibition
Buoys and seagulls move just like ships. Holding back that tap is as important as tapping quickly.
Tips
- Rest your eyes on the lamp and let the edges come to you, rather than sweeping your gaze around the screen.
- A missed lamp signal only costs points, but a ship on the rocks costs a heart. If you must choose, save the ship.
- Check the shape before tapping: from level 2 buoys appear, and from level 3 seagulls join them.
- Level 4 sends ships in from every side and level 5 adds fog patches, so widen your attention as the nights go on.
- The summary splits your noticing time into near-edge and far-edge ships. Use it to see where you are slow.
Frequently asked questions
What is a peripheral vision game?
It is a game that asks you to notice things away from where you are looking. In Lighthouse the lamp keeps your eyes in the center while ships appear near the edges of the screen.
Are there peripheral vision training games online for adults?
Lighthouse is one you can play online, made with adults in mind: six short levels, a steady pace and a clear summary. Think of it as practice for wide, relaxed attention, not as a vision treatment.
How is the score calculated?
A ship is worth 10 to 50 points depending on how quickly you tap it after it appears. Each caught signal adds 15, and clearing a level adds a 100-point bonus.
What is a peripheral vision exercise I can do in a few minutes?
One full Lighthouse run takes about four minutes. You get your average noticing time, how many signals you caught and how many decoys you left alone.
Is this peripheral vision game free?
Completely. It has no ads and loads straight in your browser on a phone, tablet or laptop. Space and Enter work for the lamp on a keyboard.
