Honeycomb: a spatial memory game in a glowing hive
Honeycomb is a spatial memory game played on a hive of hexagon cells: a few cells fill with golden honey for a moment, then go dark, and you tap every one that held it. Each clean round adds a cell, so the pattern you have to hold keeps growing. You have three hearts per run, and the question is simply how deep into the hive you can get.

How to play
- Press Start and watch the golden honey cells light up.
- Wait for the honey to fade, then tap every cell that held it, in any order.
- Find them all to move up a level, with one more honey cell next time.
- Tap a wrong cell and you lose a heart and drop back one level; after three hearts the run ends.
What it exercises
Everything here is about where things were, which makes it a tidy visual memory game as well as a spatial one.
Spatial memory
You remember positions rather than names or numbers. Holding the shape of a scattered pattern is the whole task.
Visual tracking
On turning rounds the hive rotates after the honey fades, so you follow the pattern as it moves instead of freezing a snapshot.
Selective attention
From level 5, violet nectar glows alongside the honey. You learn to notice it and then leave it out of your answer.
Tips
- Group the glowing cells into a shape, like a triangle or a zig-zag, instead of memorizing them one by one.
- Use the hive's center as an anchor and note which side each cell sits on.
- On turning rounds, keep your eyes on one honey cell during the spin and rebuild the rest around it.
- Ignore the violet nectar while watching. Spending attention on decoys leaves less room for the honey.
- There is no time limit once the honey fades, so take a breath before your first tap.
Frequently asked questions
Can I play this spatial memory game online for free?
Yes. Honeycomb opens in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer. There is nothing to install and no ads appear between rounds.
How does the difficulty grow?
Level 1 asks for three honey cells on a 19-cell hive, and every level adds one more, up to sixteen. From level 5 the hive widens to 37 cells and violet decoys appear. Every fourth level the hive turns by 60 degrees after the honey fades, and every eighth level by 120.
Are there other visual spatial memory games like this?
The idea is close to the classic pattern recall tasks where a grid flashes and you repeat it. Honeycomb adds a hexagon layout, decoys and a rotating board to keep it fresh.
Is it a spatial memory test online?
It works like one, since it measures how many cells you can recall, but it is a game rather than a formal test. Your score is one point per honey cell found, and the summary also shows your top level and accuracy.
How to improve spatial memory with this game?
We make no promises about results. What the game offers is regular, focused practice at holding a layout in mind, and most players notice their own scores climbing as they find better ways to group the cells.
Is my best score saved?
