Town Folk: a names and faces memory game on a friendly street
Town Folk is a names and faces memory game set on a cheerful town street. Neighbors walk up one at a time, introduce themselves with a name card that shows their name and their job, and then come back later in plain matching tees for you to recall. Over eight rounds you meet 32 townsfolk, and people from earlier rounds keep dropping by to check you still know them.

How to play
- Read each neighbor's name card, then tap Next or press Enter.
- When they walk back, answer the question on screen: their name, their job, or who does a given job.
- Pick one of four answers; a wrong one costs a heart and shows who that person really is.
- Finish all eight rounds, or keep going until your three hearts are gone, and check the town directory at the end.
What it exercises
Linking a face to a name is something we all do daily, and many of us find it the hardest thing to remember.
Associative memory
Every neighbor ties together three things: a face, a name and a job. A question can start from any one of them.
Face recognition
On the way back everyone wears the same plain tee, so clothes give nothing away. Hair, glasses, hats and face shape do the work.
Delayed recall
From round 2, people you met several rounds earlier return with a question, so names have to last beyond the moment.
Tips
- Turn the job into a picture on the person: a baker with flour in her curly hair, a pilot whose beard looks like clouds.
- Notice one stand-out head feature for each neighbor, like round glasses or a red beret, since their outfit will change.
- Say the name and job in a short sentence: Rosa the gardener.
- From round 5 people arrive in pairs and look-alikes appear, sharing a face and hair but wearing different glasses. Check the glasses first.
- A perfect round wins back a lost heart, so slow down on rounds where you are close.
Frequently asked questions
How to remember names and faces better?
Most memory techniques link a name to something you can see. Town Folk gives you room to try that: pick a feature, attach the name and job to it, and test the link a few minutes later when the person returns.
Is there a names and faces memory practice online for free?
Town Folk is free to play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. There is no download and there are no ads.
I have a bad memory for names and faces. Is this too hard?
Round 1 only brings two neighbors and asks for their names. Jobs come in round 2, face questions in round 3, and the street gets busier from there, so this memory game for adults starts gently.
How does the face name matching game question work?
In a Who is the... question, you see a job and four faces, and you tap the person who does that job. Some of the other faces belong to people you have met, which makes it harder to guess.
How is a run scored?
Correct answers earn points, perfect rounds bring a heart back or a bonus, and the summary lists everyone you met with a mark for remembered, mixed up or not asked.
Are the characters the same every time?
No. Faces, names and jobs are drawn fresh for every session, so you cannot learn them by heart between runs.
