Tips

Frequently asked questions

Can I play chess against the computer free with no download?

Yes. The whole game, engine included, runs inside your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. It is free and has no ads.

Which level is right for chess vs computer beginner players?

Beginner. It often leaves pieces undefended and misses threats on purpose, so you can learn how the pieces move and still win. Casual is the next step: it spots simple captures but still makes errors.

How do you win chess vs computer on a hard level?

Play solid, safe moves and wait for chances. Keep every piece protected, castle early and avoid trading into a lost endgame. On Strong and Master, use your 3 takebacks only for a move you clearly regret.

Is it possible to beat the computer in chess at Master?

It is possible but tough. Master thinks deeply on every move and rarely gives anything away, so treat a win there as a real achievement.

Does the game know every chess rule?

Yes: castling, en passant, promotion with a choice of piece, and draws by stalemate, threefold repetition, the 50-move rule or too little material to mate.

Which chess engine does it use?

Our own. Cleverini wrote its own chess engine for this game, and it runs in the background of your browser tab so the board stays responsive while it thinks.
